Before we take a deeper look into each role there is in tech, we highlight some (NOT ALL) of the roles that help you understand where your passion may be in. There are many different roles in the technology industry, and the specific roles and responsibilities can vary depending on the organization and the specific technology focus. Some of the major different technology roles include:

 

Myth: Not all tech roles require in depth coding knowledge. 

Non-technical:

  • Marketing: Marketing professionals in technology companies are responsible for promoting products and services, as well as building and maintaining the company's brand.

  • Recruiter: A Tech Recruiter sources, evaluates, and hires top talent for technology-focused roles, matching candidates with the specific technical skills and cultural fit needed by their organization.

  • Finance: Finance professionals in technology companies are responsible for managing the company's financial resources, including budgeting, forecasting, and analyzing financial data.

  • Design: Design professionals in technology companies are responsible for creating the visual appearance of the company's products and marketing materials.

  • Human Resources: HR professionals in technology companies are responsible for recruiting and hiring employees, as well as managing employee benefits and relations.

  • Legal: Legal professionals in technology companies are responsible for advising the company on legal matters, such as contracts and intellectual property, and representing the company in legal proceedings.

  • Incident Response Engineer: An Incident Response Engineer specializes in swiftly identifying, containing, and mitigating cybersecurity threats and breaches to safeguard an organization's digital assets.

  • Cloud computing: responsible for designing, building, and maintaining cloud computing infrastructure and services. This can include roles such as cloud engineer and DevOps engineer.

  • Customer Success Account Manager: A Customer Success Account Manager in tech cultivates strong client relationships, ensuring the optimal utilization and satisfaction with technology solutions to drive customer retention and success.

  • Product Manager: A product manager is responsible for the overall success of a product. A product is a deliverable that is produced and sold by an organization, and the product manager is responsible for defining the product strategy, managing the development and launch of the product, and ensuring that the product meets the needs of its target market. The product manager works closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, marketing, and sales, to ensure that the product is delivered to market on time and meets the desired quality standards. 

  • Project Manager: A project manager is responsible for the planning, execution, and closing of a specific project. A project is typically a temporary effort with a specific goal or deliverable, and the project manager is responsible for ensuring that the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

  • Program Manager: A program manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of related projects. A program is a group of related projects that are managed in a coordinated way to achieve a common goal or objective. The program manager is responsible for ensuring that the projects in the program are aligned with the overall goals and objectives of the organization, and that they are integrated and coordinated to achieve the desired outcomes.

  • Site Reliability Engineer: A Site Reliability Engineer ensures the seamless and reliable operation of complex systems and applications in a digital environment.

  • Data science and analytics: responsible for analyzing and interpreting large data sets to extract insights and inform decision-making. This can include roles such as data scientist, data analyst, and business analyst.

  • Research and development: responsible for researching and developing new technologies and products. This can include roles such as research scientist and R&D engineer.
